Fashion Retail Academy names Lord Stuart Rose as first patron ahead of new campus opening

The Fashion Retail Academy (FRA), a specialist college based in London, has announced the appointment of Lord Stuart Rose as its first patron.

The announcement comes as the Academy prepares to relocate to its new campus at Electra House on Moorgate in September.

Lord Stuart Rose, known for his influential role in the UK retail sector, will bring his extensive experience to his new role at FRA. As the former CEO of Marks & Spencer, a founding partner of the FRA, and a past chair of the British Fashion Council, Lord Rose has consistently supported the Academy since its foundation in 2005.

“I am honoured to become the first patron of the Fashion Retail Academy,” said Lord Rose. “The Academy plays a crucial role in shaping the future of the industry by equipping young people with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed.

“I look forward to continuing to support the Fashion Retail Academy’s mission and helping to inspire the next generation of fashion retail professionals.”

The FRA was established in 2005 by prominent industry players including Marks & Spencer, Next, Tesco’s F&F, Arcadia, and Experian. The Academy aims to prepare students for diverse roles within the fashion and retail industries.

Over its 19-year history, FRA has trained over 13,000 students, with 89% of them securing employment or further education within six months of graduation. Collaborating with over 250 businesses, from high street brands to luxury labels, FRA ensures its students receive practical, industry-relevant training.

The upcoming move to Electra House is part of FRA’s broader strategy to address the growing demand for skilled professionals in the fashion industry. The new campus will enable the launch of new courses and formats designed to fill critical skills gaps.

These include new degree pathways in UX/UI design, data analytics, and sustainable fashion. FRA aims to enrol 5,000 students by 2029, significantly expanding its reach and impact.

Kim Longman, Chair of the Fashion Retail Academy, expressed her enthusiasm for the appointment: “We are thrilled to welcome Lord Rose as our first patron. His unparalleled experience and passion for nurturing emerging talent aligns perfectly with our goals. This appointment is a significant step forward for the Academy as we continue to evolve and expand our impact on the fashion retail sector.”
