Collaborative Classroom launches CC PAL app to support independent reading practice
Nonprofit introduces student-facing app aligned to its existing literacy curriculum
Nonprofit publisher Collaborative Classroom has launched a student-facing app aimed at reinforcing foundational reading instruction. The tool, known as CC PAL (Practice App for Literacy), is available for use beginning in the 2025–2026 school year.
Collaborative Classroom develops instructional materials for early childhood through K–12 settings, with a focus on evidence-based literacy programs. CC PAL is the organization’s latest addition, offering independent reading practice aligned to its existing curricula.
Adaptive activities aligned to internal scope and sequence
The app provides adaptive activities covering letter recognition, phonemic awareness, spelling, decoding, and vocabulary. Students access tasks like Letter Puzzle, Sound Detective, and Word Golf, alongside a digital library of decodable texts that increase in complexity.
The tool adjusts to a student’s instructional level, with the goal of delivering targeted practice outside of direct instruction. Content is designed to be appropriate for both early learners and older students who require additional support with foundational literacy.
CC PAL follows Collaborative Classroom’s internal instructional sequence and is positioned as a supplement to classroom-based teaching. It is intended for use with the organization’s literacy programs, rather than as a standalone intervention.
Chris Janzen, Chief Product Officer at Collaborative Classroom, said:
“CC PAL represents an exciting step forward in how we support educators and students with innovative digital tools. With this new foray into student-facing technology, we are responding to the needs of teachers who want effective, research-based solutions for independent practice.”
Progress tracking for educators
The app also includes a teacher-facing dashboard that provides real-time reporting on student activity and progress. Data includes time spent, number of sessions per week, and the most reviewed letter-sound patterns. Educators can also view common student errors and progress at the subgroup or individual level.
Kelly Stuart, President and CEO of Collaborative Classroom, commented:
“To master new learning, students must get the right types of independent practice in sufficient amounts—and that’s exactly what CC PAL delivers. CC PAL is also the only reading foundations practice app that is 100 percent instructionally aligned with our proven literacy curricula. That alignment sets up students and teachers for even greater success.”
