Genea and Shooter Detection Systems team up to boost campus safety with real time gunshot detection

Shooter Detection Systems (SDS), a subsidiary of Alarm.com, has partnered with cloud-based access control company Genea to integrate gunshot detection sensors with digital security systems.

The collaboration aims to strengthen emergency response strategies by uniting SDS’s sensor technology with Genea’s cloud-based platform.

The integration allows security teams to monitor gunfire incidents in real time through floor plan-based mapping and automated emergency protocols. With school shootings remaining a persistent concern in the United States, the solution is being positioned as a tool to support faster, more coordinated responses in education settings, particularly across higher education campuses.

Sensor technology integrated with cloud-based access control

SDS’s gunshot detection sensors use dual-mode technology to identify both the acoustic signature and infrared flash of gunfire. When connected to Genea’s platform, the system delivers live status reports, tracks gunshot activity, and can automate lockdowns or unlocks as part of an emergency plan.

James Reno, Vice President of Commercial Sales for Alarm.com and Shooter Detection Systems, said, "This integration represents a significant advancement in security technology, combining our real-time indoor and outdoor gunshot alerts with Genea’s intelligent access control to deliver faster response times and enhanced situational awareness."

Focus on scalable multi-site deployment

Genea’s platform supports rapid deployment across multiple buildings, enabling broader coverage for districts, universities, or enterprise customers. The integration is part of SDS’s wider effort to embed its sensors into existing security infrastructure, including video surveillance, mass notification systems, and incident management platforms.

Mike Maxsenti, Senior Vice President of Product at Genea, said, "This partnership reinforces our mission to help provide customers with integrations that make a true impact while strengthening our commitment to the safety and security of our customers."

SDS reports a 99.9 percent accuracy rate for its detection sensors, which are SAFETY Act Certified by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
