Companies adopting AI but ‘failing to bring their workforces along,’ says General Assembly CEO as AI Academy launches
New modular training program targets productivity and workforce readiness as AI adoption accelerates

General Assembly, a workforce upskilling and talent development company, has launched a new AI Academy designed to help businesses address gaps in AI capabilities across non-technical roles.
The modular training program offers role-specific content across functions such as HR, marketing, sales, and product management. The aim is to equip employees with practical, hands-on skills that support enterprise-wide AI integration.
Daniele Grassi, chief executive officer at General Assembly, says organizations are investing in AI technologies without preparing their employees for effective implementation:
“Companies are rushing to adopt AI but failing to bring their workforces along. The growing disconnect between technology investments and human capabilities is a significant barrier to achieving ROI from AI. Businesses need to start building AI skills across the workforce, now.”
AI skills demand rising faster than supply
New research by General Assembly indicates that 89 percent of tech hiring managers expect their companies to increase AI spending in the coming year. While 51 percent cited productivity gains as the primary reason for investing in AI, the same group noted a lack of relevant internal skills as a key barrier to success.
The study also suggests that 76 percent of respondents believe their current teams can be upskilled or reskilled to meet evolving AI demands.
The AI Academy is positioned as a customizable solution, offering flexibility based on the needs of individual departments or companies. In addition to paid programs, General Assembly will provide free workshops and AI classes aimed at helping individuals explore how to integrate AI into their professional or personal routines.
Grassi adds, “The growing disconnect between technology investments and human capabilities is a significant barrier to achieving ROI from AI.”
