Uni Compare launches degree-matching quiz to help students find their perfect course

Edtech platform Uni Compare has introduced a new online quiz designed to help UK students identify degree courses aligned with their skills and ambitions.

The tool forms part of the platform’s broader mission to simplify the university decision-making process and reduce stress for prospective applicants.

According to Uni Compare, the quiz analyzes 13 questions to generate tailored course suggestions. These questions assess preferences across subject areas, career goals, and personal interests, aiming to guide students toward degrees that suit both their strengths and long-term plans.

Founder Owen O’Neill described the tool as “a great first step” for students unsure about their next move: “Choosing a degree is a big deal, but don’t stress. It’s all about finding that sweet spot where your interests, skills, and career ambitions meet. Our quiz helps take the guesswork out of this tricky decision by pointing you in the right direction based on what actually matters to you.”

Guidance on choosing a degree

Alongside the tool, O’Neill has shared five tips for students making university choices:

  1. Know your strengths: “The better you know your strengths and what excites you, the easier it’ll be to figure out what degree fits you best,” said O’Neill.

  2. Research degree content and outcomes: “Doing a bit of research into different degrees and their career paths will save you time later and make sure you’re picking something that’s both interesting and useful for your future.”

  3. Follow your interests: “You’ll be way more excited to study something you love, which is vital when dealing with long hours and heavy workloads.”

  4. Balance passion with job prospects: “Finding a balance between following your interests and being smart about your job prospects can be tough, but never impossible.”

  5. Seek external advice: “It’s always helpful to hear from people who know what it’s like in the real world.”

Platform and access

Uni Compare provides a range of services for students applying to higher education in the UK, including university data, student reviews, and information on open days. The platform says it works with universities across different alliances and supports applicants through a centralized, user-friendly interface.
