American Medical Staffing acquires Nexus Therapy in move to grow school-based care services

American Medical Staffing (AMS) has acquired Nexus Therapy, a school-focused provider of professional healthcare services, as part of its strategy to expand nationwide support for students and school communities.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Founded in 2018, AMS is a national healthcare staffing company based in Maryland. It supplies clinicians, including nurses and therapists, to various sectors. Nexus Therapy, headquartered in Washington state, offers school-based therapy and specialist staffing with a focus on students with disabilities and learning differences.

The acquisition adds school-focused talent and regional reach to AMS’s portfolio, and reflects growing demand for contracted healthcare professionals in the education sector.

Linda Perneau, CEO of AMS, said:

“We are thrilled to unite with Nexus Therapy and extend our geographical reach across the U.S. Our shared commitment to supporting students, families, and school communities is what makes this partnership so meaningful. Together, we will build a powerful network that delivers the very best care to every student.”

Nexus Therapy was founded by Tony Thompson, a speech-language pathologist who built the company to address school staffing needs.

Thompson added:

“Combining our firm with AMS marks an exciting opportunity to continue our growth with an organization that shares our vision for delivering exceptional care to children. My journey began as a passionate speech-language pathologist, which led me to build Nexus Therapy in service of school communities. Now, by joining forces with AMS, we’re expanding that mission even further — creating environments where students can truly flourish.”
