Woodside Energy pledges $300,000 to boost STEM education at Houston’s Energy Institute High School

Woodside Energy has announced a two-year, $300,000 partnership with Friends of Energy Institute to support STEM education at Energy Institute High School in Houston.

The initiative marks one of the largest donations to the Houston Independent School District (HISD) magnet school.

The contribution will fund student programmes, including robotics competitions and health initiatives, and provide lab supplies and advanced equipment for the school’s science labs and makerspace.

“Our collaboration with Friends of Energy Institute reflects our commitment to empowering the next generation of innovators and leaders in the community,” said Woodside’s Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer International, Daniel Kalms. “Through this partnership, we aim to inspire and support students as they explore and excel in the fields of energy and STEM.”

Established in 2013, Energy Institute High School is the first in the US to offer a STEM curriculum through project-based learning. The school connects HISD students with Houston’s energy sector, providing four years of engineering coursework and opportunities for hands-on learning through exhibitions, robotics, and internships.

The donation will be administered by Friends of Energy Institute, a non-profit established in 2020 to enhance STEM education and opportunities for students and teachers at the school.

Lori Lambropoulos, Principal and Founder of Energy Institute High School, expressed her gratitude:

“I am deeply grateful for the generous donation from Woodside Energy. They are investing in the energy leaders of tomorrow. This contribution will not only elevate the academic experiences of our students but also empower them with hands-on learning opportunities that prepare them for future careers in STEM fields. We are excited to see the lasting impact of this partnership on our students and community.”
