Mississippi approves Imagine Learning’s math and social studies programs for K–12 classrooms

The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) has approved Imagine Learning’s Imagine IM for K–8 Mathematics and Traverse for 6–12 Social Studies for inclusion on the state's high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) list.

The decision allows schools to integrate these resources into instruction, aligning with Mississippi’s College- and Career-Readiness Standards.

Mississippi students saw increases in academic performance in 2024, with fourth graders ranking first in reading and math score improvements based on the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). The addition of state-approved instructional materials is part of efforts to maintain and build on these results.

Instructional resources for math and social studies

Imagine IM, a mathematics curriculum for K–8 students, is designed to promote problem-solving and mathematical reasoning through a combination of digital and print materials. Its features include:

  • Problem-based instruction to support student-led discussions.

  • Digital tools, including manipulatives and instructional videos.

  • Flexible course pathways with options for accelerated middle school courses and high school traditional and integrated models.

Traverse, a social studies program for grades 6–12, provides a digital-first curriculum focused on historical analysis and civic literacy. The program incorporates:

  • A source library of over 1,500 primary and secondary materials.

  • Interactive tools designed to support peer collaboration.

  • Content tailored to Mississippi, including local historical references.

According to Kinsey Rawe, Executive Vice President and Chief Product Officer at Imagine Learning, the approval provides teachers with additional resources to support instruction:
