New LMS feature uses spaced repetition to address training drop-off and improve learning ROI

Rise Up, an AI learning technology provide for corporate training and workforce development, has introduced Memorisation, a new feature within its learning management system (LMS) designed to improve long-term knowledge retention through adaptive learning techniques.

The tool uses spaced repetition to deliver targeted reminders to learners based on their progress and individual cognitive profiles.

Rise Up is a European learning technology provider with more than 650 clients and five million users across 80 countries. The company offers a unified platform that includes learning management, content delivery, and training analytics.

Addressing training retention gaps

The new Memorisation feature is based on Ebbinghaus’s ‘Forgetting Curve’ theory that learners forget 70% of knowledge gained within 24 hours. By using AI to personalize post-training reinforcement, the tool aims to reduce information loss and shorten the time it takes for users to acquire key skills.

Learners who complete a course are automatically enrolled in a memorization track. Personalized reminders, in the form of interactive quizzes, are sent to learners at scheduled intervals. The system adjusts the frequency and difficulty of review activities based on user engagement and performance data.

Speaking exclusively to ETIH, Chief Learning Officer at Rise Up, Frédéric Hebert said:

“Our Memorisation feature uses spaced repetition as a retrieval practice, which is proven to be one of the most effective methods for boosting long-term skills retention. After completing their training, learners receive personalised reminders at intervals tailored to their unique cognitive profiles. These reminders, generated by our algorithm, take the form of quizzes with various question types, such as true/false, fill-in-the-blanks, and multiple choice. This strategy ensures that knowledge remains anchored, preventing it from quickly fading after the training ends. Widely recognised as a highly effective learning technique, spaced repetition significantly enhances the likelihood that knowledge will be retained over time.”

Hebert add, “A real-world example of the effectiveness of our Memorisation feature is how CNED, France’s national distance learning center, uses it to help students retain essential concepts they have studied. This approach has led to more than 2,500 anchoring questions answered, resulting in significant long-term retention.”

A shift toward adaptive learning

Rise Up says the Memorisation feature reflects a broader push toward adaptive training models. The tool is integrated into its LMS and accessible via both web and mobile devices. According to the company, this functionality supports personalized learning while allowing organizations to manage time-to-skill and improve return on training investment.

Arnaud Blachon, CEO of Rise Up, said: “The traditional one-size-fits-all approach to training is no longer fit for purpose, because every learner absorbs and retains information differently. That is why we are natively integrating adaptive learning into our LMS, making it a core part of the learning experience. We believe the future of learning is truly adaptive, personalised and responsive to the individual, resulting in long-term knowledge retention.”
