DeVry University joins forces with OneTen to provide scholarships and career-ready skills

DeVry University has partnered with OneTen to launch a new scholarship programme to help students gain valuable work-ready skills while creating pathways to career opportunities.

The partnership will see nearly 75 students at DeVry University receive scholarships and additional career support in key metro areas, including Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, New York, and Los Angeles. The scholarships are designed to assist students in certificate programmes and connect them with employment opportunities from OneTen coalition members.

Scarlett Howery, Vice President of Workforce Solutions at DeVry University, commented:

“We are proud to join forces with OneTen. This partnership reaffirms our commitment to closing the opportunity gap and supporting diverse talent with access to career opportunities.

“As workforce demands shift, organisations will continue to struggle to find skilled talent. Together we are poised to create impactful opportunities for learners and help them thrive in a tech-driven, competitive workforce.”

The collaboration comes at a time when more U.S. companies are moving towards skills-first hiring practices. OneTen’s 2023 Impact Report highlighted that more than half of U.S. employers have removed four-year degree requirements from their job descriptions. This shift is creating new opportunities for skilled workers who may not have traditional degrees, addressing key challenges faced by organisations in recruiting talent.

The scholarships will provide qualifying students with financial support of up to $3,000 for standard certificate programmes or $1,500 for essentials certificate programmes. In addition to tuition, students can use the funds for books, study materials, and other fees required to complete their courses. The scholarship initiative is set to begin with the November 2024 and January 2025 academic sessions.

Students participating in the programme will receive also career support through DeVry’s Career Compact services. These services include personalised advice on job searches, resume writing, and interview preparation, as well as access to virtual career events hosted by OneTen. Graduates will also have the opportunity to apply to jobs offered by companies within the OneTen coalition.

Debbie Dyson, CEO of OneTen, stated:

“Our goal is to work with our talent development network to align education with the skills that are in demand. By partnering with DeVry University, we are equipping learners with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed, while helping employers access a wider pool of qualified talent without relying on traditional degree requirements.

“Together, we’re creating pathways for sustainable career growth and unlocking untapped potential in today’s workforce."
