Inversity and University of Liverpool Maths School Launch AI education programme for local youth

AI

In a move to transform AI education in Liverpool, Inversity, a startup focused on practical AI learning, has partnered with the University of Liverpool Maths School to provide students aged 14-19 with the skills needed to thrive in an AI-driven world.

The collaboration is aimed at offering hands-on AI education through real-world challenges, ensuring that Liverpool’s next generation is prepared for careers in the rapidly evolving tech landscape.

From healthcare to finance, the integration of AI is rapidly changing the way organisations operate. As this trend continues, ensuring that the next generation has a deep understanding of AI is crucial.

Governments and educational institutions around the world are placing a strong emphasis on STEM education, particularly in areas related to AI and data science.

The Inversity and University of Liverpool Maths School partnership

Launched in 2024, the partnership between Inversity and the University of Liverpool Maths School offers students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with AI. Inversity, founded by former No.10 Downing Street data scientist Dr James Kuht, is dedicated to providing practical AI education through real-world challenges. For students aged 14-19 in Liverpool, this collaboration represents a chance to develop skills that are fast becoming essential in a variety of sectors.

Dr James Kuht, CEO and co-founder of Inversity, highlighted the importance of this initiative, stating:

"AI is a powerful tool for addressing society's most pressing challenges. By equipping Liverpool's youth with the skills to harness AI responsibly, we're not just educating students – we're empowering the next generation of problem-solvers."

Recognising the need to support teachers in delivering high-quality AI education, Inversity is also offering heavily subsidised AI masterclasses for local educators. These masterclasses, available until March 2025, will help teachers stay ahead of the curve in AI literacy.

Backing from industry leaders

Dr Steve Garnett, a prominent figure in the software industry, is a key supporter of Inversity’s work in Liverpool. Having held leadership roles at Salesforce and Oracle, Garnett is now focused on philanthropic efforts aimed at promoting AI education.

“I was born and bred in Liverpool and was very fortunate to get an education that allowed me to take part in the personal, mobile, and cloud computing revolutions," Garnett said. "Today we see significant corporate investment in computing power and algorithms, fuelling an AI revolution. I am delighted to work with Inversity and the University of Liverpool Maths School to bring the latest training in AI to talented, deserving Liverpool students.”

Broader impact on Liverpool’s youth

The University of Liverpool Maths School is no stranger to success in STEM education. Known for being the top-performing state school in the north of England, the school has consistently prioritised student development in mathematical sciences.

Damian Haigh, Headteacher at the University of Liverpool Maths School, expressed excitement about the partnership: “AI is becoming the fundamental tool for solving society's biggest challenges, so working with Inversity to upskill our students in AI is a major focus for this year.”
