Sodexo to launch 100 Food Hive convenience stores on U.S. college campuses by 2026

Sodexo has announced plans to open 100 "Food Hive" convenience stores across U.S. college campuses by 2026.

The initiative aims to meet student demands for fast, inclusive, and healthy shopping experiences while supporting local businesses. Approximately 30 locations are set to open during the 2024–2025 academic year.

Food Hive stores are designed with frictionless, cashless checkout systems and feature products from minority- and women-owned businesses. These stores also prioritize offering healthier food options and cater to Gen Z’s preference for community-focused shopping.

Drew Nannis, Sodexo Campus Head of Marketing, stated:

“We know that Gen Z prefers shopping experiences that support their community while getting what they want as fast as possible with frictionless checkout. Food Hive delivers just that, fueling stronger campus communities and providing the convenience today’s students need.”

Participating campuses include Moorehouse College, University of Illinois Chicago, Northern Arizona University (NAU), Texas Christian University, and Hamlin University.

Rose Wilson, District Manager at Sodexo, Northern Arizona University, said:

"I'm delighted to announce the upcoming Food Hive concept at NAU. This innovative c-store will not only provide our students with a diverse selection of hot and cold food options but also meet their personal and grocery needs.

“The modern flow of the store, including self-checkout, will enhance efficiency and convenience for everyone. I can't wait for our students to experience this fantastic one-stop-shop addition to our campus when we open in the spring of 2025.”

The Food Hive initiative builds on Sodexo’s broader mission to enhance campus dining and facilities management services. The company serves 425 institutions nationwide and offers solutions, such as delivery robots and advanced facilities technology.
