PPG donates digital automotive refinish tech to support global vocational training
PPG has provided its PPG LINQ digital automotive refinish ecosystem to 15 vocational schools in over 10 countries in the past 15 months.
This initiative supports PPG’s $2 million investment in workforce development programs aimed at reducing the shortage of skilled labor in the automotive refinish industry and encouraging students to pursue trade careers.
The donation gives more than 1,500 students access to advanced digital tools used in modern automotive refinishing. This effort helps address challenges highlighted by the European Commission’s report on vocational education and training (VET), such as outdated equipment, funding limitations, and inconsistent work-based learning opportunities.
The PPG LINQ system integrates digital hardware, software, and services to enhance the efficiency of the automotive refinish process. The tools include the PPG MOONWALK paint mixing system, the PPG DIGIMATCH multi-angle color camera, the PPG VISUALIZID 3D rendering software, and the PPG LINQ Color identification software.
Jérôme Zamblera, Vice President of EMEA Automotive Refinish at PPG, said:
“We understand the transformative power of innovation and digitalization in education. The PPG LINQ ecosystem represents our vision for modernizing the car refinishing industry and inspiring young talent to build careers in this dynamic field. Our investments in schools, including further initiatives planned for next year, reflect our commitment to preparing the next generation for the exciting opportunities in the automotive sector.”
The donation has already benefited institutions such as College360 in Denmark. Daniel Krarup Jørgensen, Automotive Education Manager at College360, stated:
“We are proud to partner with PPG to bring advanced technology and expertise to our educational program. This partnership will give our students a unique opportunity to work with some of the most innovative tools on the market. We hope this will motivate more young people to choose a career in automotive refinishing and thereby mitigate the shortage of qualified professionals in the industry.”
PPG’s initiative aims to equip students with the skills required for modern automotive careers, addressing the industry's growing demand for skilled workers.
