NTT DATA introduces Generative AI Talent Development Framework for global workforce

NTT DATA, a global IT services and digital business firm, has announced the implementation of its Generative AI (GenAI) Talent Development Framework.

The framework aims to provide GenAI training to approximately 200,000 employees worldwide, with a goal of developing 30,000 GenAI experts by 2026.

The initiative is part of NTT DATA’s broader strategy to prepare its workforce for supporting clients in the effective use of GenAI technology.

Objectives of the GenAI Talent Development Framework

The framework is structured to offer varying levels of GenAI expertise, starting from basic knowledge to advanced leadership roles. NTT DATA plans to certify at least 15,000 high-level GenAI practitioners by the end of fiscal year 2024, with the target of increasing this number to 30,000 by fiscal year 2026. These experts will work with clients on GenAI development and deployment.

The framework includes standardised evaluation criteria for skill sets and a development roadmap, with customised training provided based on roles, skill levels, and industry specialisations. The programme is designed to cover roles such as consultants, sales professionals, developers, and users of generative AI.

The talent development framework establishes a global standard for GenAI training. It includes a curriculum that caters to various levels of expertise, ensuring that NTT DATA’s workforce can apply GenAI in multiple business contexts. Training focuses on equipping employees to develop offerings, business proposals, and solutions that meet client needs in relation to GenAI technology.

The company aims to provide role-specific training that ensures employees in different sectors are prepared to implement GenAI solutions effectively. This initiative supports NTT DATA’s strategy of aligning GenAI expertise with client demands.

Leveraging NTT DATA’s experience in AI

NTT DATA’s GenAI efforts are supported by NTT Group’s longstanding research and development (R&D) activities in artificial intelligence, which span more than 40 years. NTT DATA ranks 12th globally in the number of GenAI-related patents held. The company’s approach is further strengthened by its ecosystem of partners, global delivery networks, and end-to-end capabilities from consultation to deployment.

The framework aligns with NTT DATA Group’s AI Guidelines, ensuring that the company’s use of GenAI meets ethical standards and contributes to the broader goal of addressing business challenges through advanced technologies.

Yutaka Sasaki, President and CEO of NTT DATA, commented:

"With the rapid advancement of Generative AI, talent development has become a social imperative. By utilising the framework we have established, we can efficiently cultivate highly skilled professionals. We are confident that large-scale generative AI talent development will significantly contribute to our customers' businesses, their outcomes, and ultimately to the broader market."
