McLaren Racing leaders share high-performance skills in new Udemy course

Udemy has announced a new course led by senior executives from McLaren Racing

Titled "Accelerating Excellence: Unleashing High-Performance Culture with McLaren Racing," the course aims to provide learners, motorsports enthusiasts, and business leaders with an inside look into how McLaren develops high-performance teams.

The course features insights from:

  • Daniel Gallo, Chief People & Sustainability Officer at McLaren Racing

  • Ian James, Managing Director of NEOM McLaren Electric Racing, and Team Principal of the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team

  • Piers Thynne, Chief Operating Officer at McLaren F1

Through Udemy, these executives share tools and strategies for achieving and maintaining high performance under pressure, drawing inspiration from the high-stakes world of motorsports.

Key topics include decision-making, leveraging marginal gains, prioritising team health and wellbeing, and fostering a diverse and innovative culture. The course, recorded in English, offers subtitles in 14 languages, including French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Mandarin, Portuguese, and Spanish.

Daniel Gallo stated:

“There is a critical need for robust leadership development programmes as we transition to a skills-based economy because effective leaders can drive innovation and enhance organisational performance.

“Through the Udemy course, we aim to share best practices on not only achieving high performance but also how to sustain that mentality in high-pressure environments.”

Udemy's Chief Marketing Officer, Genefa Murphy, noted the increasing demand for leadership courses:

“Over 40% of our global enterprise customers are actively engaging in leadership and management courses, and over the past two years, the demand for these topics has increased on the Udemy platform.

“We are excited to collaborate with McLaren Racing so that they can share their unique perspective on how they create and maintain a high-performance culture while operating in one of the most fast-paced and data-driven industries there is.”

Partnership and Initiatives

As the Official Learning and Skills Partner of McLaren Racing, Udemy collaborates on various skills-oriented initiatives and events. In June, Udemy hosted a webinar where Ian James shared insights on applying motorsport principles, such as high-pressure decision-making, across industries. Udemy also partners with McLaren Racing's 60 Scholars program, which aims to empower women in STEM fields.

In April, Udemy and McLaren Racing hosted their first Innovation Day, titled PowerUp, at McLaren’s OKX Thought Leadership Centre. The event brought together enterprise customers to discuss skills, innovation, high performance, and generative AI. These initiatives highlight Udemy’s commitment to creating learning-centric environments and fostering high-performance cultures.

Simon Ruszala, Group Learning Director at Devoteam, praised the PowerUp event:

“In the face of today's rapidly changing job market, organisations that prioritise learning as a strategic advantage are those that will thrive. PowerUp provided us invaluable insights and strategies in building a learning-centric culture that we can immediately apply to our own L&D initiatives.

“In addition, the opportunity to connect with global leaders and learn from McLaren Racing's unique approach to skills development and validation was truly inspiring. Udemy is a powerful ally in our journey to learn at the pace of change and enhance organisational efficiency allowing us to achieve our business goals."
