Cipher Neutron and SFU team up to transform green hydrogen technology

Cipher Neutron, a portfolio company of dynaCERT, has announced a significant collaboration with Simon Fraser University (SFU) to design and construct two 250-kilowatt electrolyser stacks.

Electrolyser stacks are systems used to split water into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity, a key process in producing green hydrogen, considered a clean energy source.

Cipher Neutron, known for its innovative AEM Electrolysers and reversible fuel cells, focuses on green hydrogen production. SFU, recognised for its pioneering work in hydrogen production research, is in Burnaby, Canada.

SFU Clean Hydrogen Hub

The SFU Clean Hydrogen Hub, located at the Burnaby campus, is a new research facility that promotes clean energy by bringing together industry, community, academia, and government partners. The project involves developing a 1/2 megawatt AEM Electrolyser designed to meet the university's rigorous research and operational needs.

A key objective is to build an anionic exchange membrane (AEM) water electrolyser using fluorine-free polymer membranes developed by Ionomr Innovations Inc. This initiative aims to reduce the costs of green hydrogen production while maintaining high performance and stability.

Gurjant Randhawa, President and CEO of Cipher Neutron, stated:

"We are delighted to collaborate with Simon Fraser University on this transformative project. Winning the ACAN is a testament to our innovative capabilities and the trust placed in us by such a prestigious institution.

This project aligns with our mission to advance green hydrogen solutions and reinforces our role as leaders in the renewable energy sector."

The project will investigate and validate AEM technology at the 250 kW to 1 MW scale, essential for scalable, cost-effective hydrogen production.

SFU and Cipher Neutron will explore advanced AEM electrolyser technologies to enable low-cost green hydrogen production and foster innovation in the hydrogen sector.

Jim Payne, Chairman and CEO of dynaCERT Inc., commented:

"As a proud shareholder of Cipher Neutron, we are pleased to announce its groundbreaking project within a Canadian Clean Hydrogen Hub. This 250 kW single-stack AEM electrolyser project represents a significant initiative in green hydrogen technology.

“Cipher Neutron's cutting-edge AEM electrolysers are positioned at the forefront of innovation, designed to offer unique efficiency and scalability. We support the substantial positive impact this project can have on the hydrogen economy and the overall sustainability of our energy systems."
