Kids Cook Real Food is providing a free virtual summer camp in the USA with 100 life skills workshops for kids and teens aged 5-18, along with their parents, from 24th-28th June.

The programme includes short videos, ranging from 5 to 30 minutes, created by 70 experts in various fields such as finance, entrepreneurship, organisation, cooking, gardening, and wellness.

Each workshop assigns campers a "mission," an actionable step to implement in real life. Families have the chance to win 200 prizes, totalling $10,000, by completing these missions.

The virtual summer camp wants to address what some see as a  gap in practical life skills among youth.

The #LifeSkillsNow summer camp aims to provide real-world applications, such as starting a business and managing a ledger, which help maintain and develop academic skills.

The programme includes workshops on effective notetaking, organising schedules and projects with Trello, tools to reduce test anxiety, and planning ahead.

The camp also addresses what they call the "summer slide," where some students experience a decline in maths skills, and reading proficiency can drop by up to two months, according to learner.com.

Katie Kimball, CEO & founder, said:

“In a world where one-third of college students can't boil an egg and youth anxiety is at an all-time high.

"Children need authentic skills to build confidence and agency, which are the ultimate anxiety antidotes."
