Kemper Foundation launches $10,000 grants to support dual-language education in Title I schools

K12

The Kemper Foundation has announced the expansion of its Read Conmigo Grant Program by introducing Read Conmigo School Impact Grants.

These grants will provide financial support to Title I elementary schools in Greater Los Angeles, Dallas, McAllen (TX), and Miami, aiming to enhance dual-language education for bilingual students in under-resourced communities.

The new initiative will offer up to 22 grants of $10,000 each. The funds will support a range of school-wide programs, including library improvements, educational technology, instructional resources, and community engagement activities.

The goal is to address the specific needs of each school and improve long-term educational outcomes for Hispanic and Latino students.

Grant details

  • Grant Amount: Up to $10,000 per school

  • Eligibility: Title I public and charter elementary schools in Greater Los Angeles, Dallas, McAllen (TX), and Miami

  • Use of Funds: Dual-language initiatives, including library upgrades, technology enhancements, professional development, and cultural or community engagement

  • Application Period: January 8 to March 9, 2025, via The Kemper Foundation’s grants portal

The School Impact Grants build on the previous Read Conmigo Educator Grants, which have improved student skills in reading, writing, spelling, vocabulary, phonics, and speaking. By expanding the program to entire schools, The Kemper Foundation aims to strengthen community connections and provide comprehensive support for dual-language education.

The Kemper Foundation is one of the few private organizations dedicated to advancing dual-language education, focusing on closing opportunity gaps for Hispanic and Latino students. The Foundation’s mission supports providing essential skills for students to succeed in an increasingly globalized environment.

Joseph P. Lacher, Jr., Chairman of The Kemper Foundation Board of Trustees and President and CEO of Kemper Corporation, stated:

“We’re excited to expand the Read Conmigo program to support schools in their mission to promote dual-language education. Read Conmigo’s educator grants have demonstrated the transformative power that quality dual-language education can have on bilingual students’ academic success.

“By broadening our program to support schools, we hope to amplify this impact and create lasting benefits for students, educators, families and communities."
