DeVry University and 1871 partner to drive AI Innovation and entrepreneurship

DeVry University has entered into a strategic partnership with 1871, a prominent hub in Chicago’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The collaboration is designed to advance AI innovation and entrepreneurship, creating new opportunities for students, corporate partners, and the broader community.

Shantanu Bose, Ph.D., DeVry University’s provost and chief academic officer, stated:

“We are thrilled to partner with 1871 to expand opportunities for our students, corporate partners, and communities. DeVry’s unique legacy is rooted in innovation.

“Our forward-thinking founders envisioned the kind of technology-focused, hands-on education that DeVry still stands for today.”

The partnership saw DeVry participating in 1871’s annual AI Innovation Summit on 27th June, coinciding with Chicago AI Week. The event brought together more than 250 startups, investors, corporate partners, and industry experts for a full day of programming centred on AI innovation and critical industry topics.

Betsy Ziegler, CEO of 1871 and a member of the DeVry Board of Trustees, highlighted the significance of this collaboration:

“At 1871 and DeVry University, we are united by a shared vision of driving technological advancement and nurturing entrepreneurial talent. Our partnership combines DeVry's innovative educational programmes with 1871's thriving network of startups and industry leaders.

“Together, we aim to accelerate AI innovation and create impactful opportunities for our communities."

DeVry University has been integrating AI learning technologies to enhance both learner and classroom experiences, preparing students for a technology-driven workplace. Since 2018, DeVry has used an AI-powered adaptive learning platform to improve outcomes in maths courses.

The introduction of AI and machine learning courses in 2020 marked the beginning of a broader integration of these technologies into degree programmes and certificates. The university recently launched an AI Lab to foster a more supportive and engaging learning environment for its students.

The partnership aims to leverage the strengths of both institutions to drive innovation in AI and entrepreneurship, providing students with hands-on experience and access to a network of industry leaders and innovators. This collaboration is expected to open new avenues for students and enhance their readiness for careers in AI and technology.

Dr. Bose concluded, “This innovative partnership reaffirms our commitment to help prepare the next generation of AI, technology, and business leaders.”
