Crayola Create & Play partners with Smithsonian to bring educational content to kids' app

Crayola Create and Play has announced a collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution, incorporating Smithsonian-inspired activities into its educational app.

The team up aims to provide children with new ways to explore art, science, and space by engaging with content from the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History and National Air and Space Museum.

The Crayola Create and Play app, developed by Red Games Co., is known for its creative and educational focus. With the new update, users can interact with a variety of Smithsonian exhibits. Children can view specimens such as fossils, gemstones, and insects and learn facts about them. They can also design aeroplanes inspired by historical models and create their own spacesuits, which are then displayed in a virtual zero-gravity environment.

Brian Lovell, CEO of Red Games Co., highlighted the significance of the collaboration, stating:

"We're excited to partner with the Smithsonian to give kids and players of all ages a new way to discover science, art, history and more, with Smithsonian expertise.

“The collaboration introduces unique content updates that blend Crayola's creative specialisation with the Smithsonian's expert knowledge, creating an inspiring creative learning environment that is unique to Crayola Create and Play. We are looking forward to having kids and families enjoy the dynamic and immersive experience."

The app provides children with tools to explore scientific and artistic topics in a hands-on digital environment. According to the Smithsonian, the collaboration aligns with its mission of educating and inspiring younger generations through knowledge and discovery.

Carol LeBlanc, President of Smithsonian Enterprises, commented:

"Crayola's belief in unleashing the originality in every child together with the Smithsonian's mission for the increase and diffusion of knowledge truly creates the opportunity to engage children in new and exciting way.

"Combining the power of these two brands through Crayola Create and Play allows the Smithsonian to reach children and families digitally and in a current and relevant way."

The update is designed to make learning engaging for children while offering a structured experience that encourages exploration and creativity. With a focus on both science and the arts, the app aims to enhance learning by connecting children with real-world exhibits from the Smithsonian's collections.

Brian Nemeckay, Senior Manager at Crayola Interactive, said:

"This exciting partnership with the Smithsonian in Crayola Create and Play couldn't be a more perfect fit with Crayola's mission to help parents and educators raise creatively alive kids.

"Combining educational elements of the Smithsonian with the colorful inspiration of Crayola will spark curiosity, encourage exploration, and put kids' imagination into action in an experience that children will love and parents can trust."
