Boundless Learning appoints Joshua Richards CEO

Boundless Learning, a 30-year EdTech veteran firm that was spun out of Pearson and now claims 17,000 learners in 150+ countries, has appointed Joshua Richards as its new chief executive officer (CEO).

Effective immediately, CEO Richards succeeds Kees Bol, who stepped down to pursue outside opportunities, with the thanks of the EdTech firm for his prior efforts.

Richards has more than 20 years of experience in technology and education solutions at Boundless Learning and its predecessor organization, Pearson Online Learning Services (POLS), from which it was recently spun off, having been acquired in 2012.

The new CEO held multiple senior technology and business roles at Pearson and was a member of the executive leadership team at POLS. Key responsibilities included the management of major digital transformation programs as the business and learning internet really took off last decade, and the development of new product, technology and business operations functionality.

Richards decided to stay with the company as it pursued its own standalone path. He was Boundless Learning’s Chief Product and Technology Officer, before his recent ascent to the CEO position.

With his extensive background in technology and significant experience in designing impactful digital learning experiences that drive revenue, it was felt that Richards was the man best placed to lead the new standalone firm into the future. He will execute Boundless Learning’s growth strategy in the higher education, corporate, and trade body association verticals in 2025 and beyond.

“It’s an honor and privilege to lead Boundless Learning and our team of dedicated professionals as we capitalize on the growth opportunities before us,” said Richards. “We are well positioned to build on our successful first year as a standalone company.”

“From launching an innovative, new partnership with Sassoon Academy to unveiling our refreshed product and service solutions, we continue to expand our unique offerings that are built on our strong background in online education,” he continued, adding that: “Our approach and mission remain the same: To drive learner success through personalization and provide opportunity for our partners to expand their reach.”
