Walnut Coding promotes AI programming in Chengdu, China schools

Walnut Coding, an online platform dedicated to coding education for young learners, recently supported the "Programming the Future" event in Chengdu.

Walnut Coding aims to inspire a passion for science and technology among children and make high-quality coding education accessible to all. Founded in 2017, they offer courses in Scratch, Python, and C++ in China.

The event, organised by the Chenghua District Education Bureau of Chengdu, aimed to promote science and technology education among primary and secondary school students. Held on 2 July 2024, it provided students with a platform to showcase and enhance their programming skills while fostering an interest in artificial intelligence and computer programming.

The event attracted nearly 1,000 participants, encouraging students to create AI-themed mini projects using graphical programming. Activities included public creative programming and AI programming classes, culminating in a prize-giving ceremony for selected projects.

One notable project was developed by Junyi Bai, a fifth-grader from the Experimental Primary School Attached to the University of Electronic Science and Technology. Bai created a "Police Catching Thieves" game using Scratch, a block-based coding language, programming characters such as police and thieves through various coding techniques.

Yuyang Mo, a sixth-grader at Chengdu Jinguancheng Primary School, shared his experience: "This activity not only allowed me to use Scratch to design games and animations independently but also stimulated my interest in programming, inspiring my independent thinking and problem-solving abilities."

Earlier this year, Walnut Coding also supported the "I am a Little Astronaut" event in Xi'an, which attracted more than 48,000 students from over 180 schools. Participants showcased their love for aerospace science through creative programming, with 37 students winning awards and visiting top scientific research institutions.

Yuhang Wang, Co-founder of Walnut Coding, commented:

"Walnut Coding has always been committed to inspiring a love for science and technology among children as well as their desire for innovation through coding education.

We have been actively supporting student programming projects across the country, providing technical support for various youth science and technology practice activities. We hope to bring students new developmental experiences through more projects, thus helping to promote the development of scientific education."
