University of South Wales upgrades student information system with Ellucian SaaS platform

The University of South Wales (USW) is set to implement a new Student Information System (SIS) to modernise its technology operations and improve the student experience.

The University, established over 180 years ago, has campuses in Cardiff, Newport, and Pontypridd. It will use Banner, part of the Ellucian SaaS Platform, as part of its long-standing relationship with Ellucian, a higher education technology solutions provider.

USW's decision to upgrade its SIS is a strategic initiative aligned with its 2030 vision. The new system aims to maximise positive impacts for students, partners, and communities by streamlining administrative processes and increasing operational efficiency.

The Ellucian SaaS Platform will integrate various data points across departments, allowing university administrators to make informed, data-driven decisions. The university hopes students will benefit from a user-friendly system that consolidates all necessary information in one place, eliminating the need for multiple logins.

Mark Milton, Chief Operating Officer at USW, expressed enthusiasm about the new system:

"We are thrilled to be partnering with Ellucian for our Student Journey Programme. This work will help to transform and futureproof the student journey at USW, optimise and personalise the student and staff experience, and ensure we secure a fit for the future, sustainable solution which will help the University to change lives and our world for the better."

Speaking exclusively to ETIH Laura Ipsen, President and CEO of Ellucian, said:

“Ellucian has partnered with the University of South Wales for over twenty years and, as a higher ed leader in the UK and beyond, the institution continues to evolve to meet the needs of learners. Leveraging the Ellucian SaaS Platform, USW will deliver an institution-wide approach to improve collaboration and integration, reduce administrative workload, and improve data accuracy and reporting with a sustainable and secure SaaS environment.

The Ellucian SaaS Platform will help USW increase recruitment and create an improved and personalized experience for applicants. Together, we will also work to improve student retention rates with simplified processes and aggregated information across systems, which will provide insights allowing faculty and staff to focus on student success. With a shared commitment to putting students first, we are proud of our partnership and look forward to supporting the next phase of USW's digital transformation journey.”
