Staples Canada has announced the expansion of its educational initiative, Staples Kids Learn + Play, into more than 100 additional stores across the country.

The expansion, the largest in the company’s 33-year history, aims to provide a wide range of educational tools and toys both in-store and online.

The concept will be available in 129 stores by the end of August, enhancing Staples Canada's role as a provider of educational resources for children.

Play-Based Learning

Staples Kids Learn + Play focuses on play-based learning, which involves hands-on activities that help children develop cognitive, fine motor, sensory, and exploratory skills. This approach supports their growth and sets them up for future success.

The in-store experience is designed to be interactive and inviting, featuring bright environments where children can participate in free events. The zones are organised by four foundational learning categories:

  1. Cognitive Development: Products in this category aim to promote brain-based skills, such as problem-solving and critical thinking. Key items include the Mattel Games Blokus Family Fun Game, THINK FUN - Zingo!, and Rubik's Cube.

  2. Fine Motor Skills: Activities in this category help children develop precise movements using the small muscles in their hands and wrists. Popular products include LEGO Friends Hot Dog Food Truck, Magna-Tiles Builder Magnetic Construction Set, and Dragon Blok Mustang Fighter P-51.

  3. Sensory Development: This category includes items designed to enhance senses such as hearing, touch, and sight, fostering imagination and learning retention. Key products are Kinetic Sand Soft Serve Station, Play-Doh Hair Stylin' Salon, and Learning Resources Cool Down Cubes Sensory Fidget Set.

  4. Discovery & Exploration: These products encourage scientific thinking and engineering skills. Notable items include the Crayola Paper Flower Science Kit, Snap Circuits Junior 100-in-1 Kit, and Discovery Mindblown Kids Model Engine Kit.

Rachel Huckle, CEO of Staples Canada, emphasised the importance of engaging children in learning activities:

"As parents, we know that there's always the need to keep our kids engaged and learning – especially if they're learning through play.

"Since introducing Staples Kids Learn + Play in eight stores last year, we've seen a strong customer response. We're excited to further expand the Kids Learn + Play experience to more stores, benefitting parents, young learners, and educators alike."
