Mighty Doodle launches AI literacy app to support children’s reading and writing skills

Mighty Doodle, a new educational platform using artificial intelligence to tailor literacy lessons for young students, was launched today on the Apple App Store.

Targeting children between 1st and 4th grade, the app aims to help learners build skills in reading, writing, and spelling by offering personalised and adaptive learning experiences.

Designed with a focus on addressing the needs of students with dyslexia and other learning challenges, the platform provides tools for self-paced, interactive learning. Its AI technology adjusts lessons based on each child's progress, giving real-time feedback through handwriting and voice recognition features.

Deb Mallin, an educator with decades of experience in teaching children with learning differences, developed Mighty Doodle to make her evidence-based methods available to a wider audience. She said:

"The challenge wasn't children's ability to learn—it was my ability to broadly offer the proven methods to reach them all. Mighty Doodle allows me to scale the science of reading and support more families without sacrificing quality."

Mighty Doodle employs AI to personalise each child’s learning path. Lessons are automatically adjusted depending on the student’s progress, offering a tailored approach to literacy development. Through its voice and handwriting recognition tools, the platform continuously adapts to the child’s needs.

Parents are provided with access to a portal where they can track their child's performance. This feature allows caregivers to observe real-time data and offers detailed insights into the learning process, which can be shared with teachers if needed.

The app is built on the Orton-Gillingham method which is a structured, multi-sensory approach to teaching literacy, particularly designed for children with special educational needs such as dyslexia.

It was developed in the early 20th century by Dr. Samuel Orton, a neuropsychiatrist, and Anna Gillingham, an educator and psychologist, to provide a systematic way to teach reading, writing, and spelling.

Mallin, who has applied these techniques throughout her career as a tutor and educator, sought to bring the benefits of one-on-one instruction to the digital space.

"Mighty Doodle is not just about the technology behind the programme—it's about ensuring that every child can thrive on their learning journey and reach their unlimited potential as life-long learners," Mallin explained.

"We believe every child deserves access to equity in education and the opportunity to unlock their greatest potential," Mallin added. "Mighty Doodle is more than just an app; it's a movement to make literacy accessible for all children."
