MagicSchool AI raises $15 Million to address AI literacy in education

MagicSchool AI, a rapidly expanding technology platform for educators and students, has secured $15 million in Series A funding. 

The round, led by Bain Capital Ventures, also saw contributions from Adobe Ventures and Common Sense Media, along with angel investors such as Replit founder Amjad Masad, Clever co-founders Tyler Bosmeny and Rafael Garcia, and OutSchool co-founder Amir Nathoo.

The funding aims to develop more AI applications in education. Amid significant teacher shortages and growing burnout, MagicSchool AI seeks to address these challenges while preparing students for an AI-driven workforce. 

Christina Melas-Kyriazi, partner at Bain Capital Ventures, remarked:

AI has a massive opportunity in education - both to alleviate the burden of heavy teacher workloads and to enable personalised education for every student. MagicSchool AI continues to innovate and develop new offerings to match the moment for this opportunity.”

MagicSchool for Teachers provides tools to assist with over 50 tasks, including quiz generation, lesson planning, and text adjustment for reading levels. 

Recently launched, MagicSchool for Students aims to build AI literacy. Students can engage in various tasks such as translation, summarisation, writing feedback, tutoring, and math review. These tasks can be managed at a teacher's discretion.The platform, advocates for the responsible use of AI and aims to support students with the necessary skills to navigate a rapidly evolving AI landscape. 

Since its launch, MagicSchool AI has quickly grown, attracting over 2 million educators in the USA. The platform has partnered with more than 3,000 schools and districts. 

The newly acquired funds will support MagicSchool AI in expanding its offerings for teachers and students and increasing its workforce. The company plans to build on existing capabilities, such as generating lesson plans, classroom activities, rubrics, and personalising instruction.

Founded by Adeel Khan, a former teacher and principal, MagicSchool AI was developed to create tools that would have benefited him in the classroom. He said:
