LumaCyte introduces academy for advanced cellular analysis training

LumaCyte has introduced the Laser Force Cytology Academy, an educational platform designed to provide comprehensive training in LumaCyte’s LFC optical force technology.

The academy will equip scientists and biomanufacturers with essential skills for utilising LFC in bioprocess applications.

LumaCyte specialises in research and bioanalytics instrumentation, focusing on label-free, single-cell analysis.

Their technology, Laser Force Cytology (LFC), measures optical and fluidic forces within a microfluidic channel to characterise cellular responses based on intrinsic biophysical and biochemical properties.

Applications include vaccine development, cell and gene therapy, CAR T-cell immunotherapy, iPSC differentiation, adventitious agent testing, infectious disease research, and pre-clinical drug discovery.

LumaCyte's new academy focuses on applying Laser Force Cytology technology integrated into their Radiance instrument. The technology enables label-free, quantitative cell characterisation, allowing real-time monitoring of cellular responses without requiring antibodies or genetic modification.

The objective is to ensure regulatory compliance and maintain cellular potency throughout development and manufacturing processes.

This training initiative follows LumaCyte’s invitation to train US FDA CBER cell and gene therapy reviewers, highlighting regulatory interest in advanced analytical solutions.

"Receiving the FDA’s invitation to train 120 cell and gene therapy and vaccine reviewers on Laser Force Cytology was an incredible honour for LumaCyte,” stated Renee Hart, President and Chief Business Officer at LumaCyte.

The Laser Force Cytology Academy is structured into two main modules. The first module provides an introductory course on the fundamental principles of LFC, accessible to the broader scientific community. This course explores the technology’s capabilities in cellular analysis and precision bioanalytics.

The second module, available exclusively to Radiance users, offers a deeper exploration of the instrument and technology. This module includes hands-on training, enabling users to utilise Laser Force Cytology in laboratory workflows and processes fully.

Radiance users can also register for onsite training at LumaCyte headquarters for practical experience with LumaCyte’s scientific experts and data analytics engineers.

LumaCyte aims to bridge the gap between cutting-edge technology and its adoption by biopharmaceutical developers and manufacturers. By developing a network of expert users and driving innovation, the company envisions Laser Force Cytology becoming integral to predictive analytics for designing and producing advanced therapies.

"We are proud to support the vision of forward-thinking regulators and contribute to the advancement of bioanalytics," said Hart. "Real-time data insights illuminate complex development and production steps, enabling rapid scaling, reducing manufacturing failures, and ensuring successful patient treatments.”
