Florida adopts TEG’s Standards & Materials Navigator for K-12 curriculum transparency requirements
Trinity Education Group (TEG) has been selected by the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) to implement a statewide platform that requires greater curriculum ‘transparency’ for K-12 schools.
TEG’s Standards & Materials Navigator Platform was chosen to fulfil legislative mandates in Florida’s recent educational reforms, including HB 1467 and HB 1557.
The selection of TEG’s platform follows recent legislation signed by Governor Ron DeSantis that requires transparency in educational materials in K-12 education. Specifically, HB 1557 and HB 1467 reinforce parents’ rights to access, review, and approve instructional materials, as well as providing public access to curriculum and library resources.
“We are honoured to partner with the Florida Department of Education in this crucial initiative. Our Standards & Materials Navigator Platform is designed to empower parents, students, and educators by providing transparent access to educational resources, ensuring that every stakeholder can be actively involved in the educational process,” said Hugh Norwood, Founder and CEO of TEG.
TEG’s Standards & Materials Navigator Platform includes specific functions to meet the requirements of Florida’s new educational transparency laws. Key features include:
User Access: The platform allows parents, students, and districts to search, view, and comment on instructional and library materials.
Standards Alignment: Textbook and instructional content align with state academic standards, including Florida’s B.E.S.T. standards in Math and Literacy.
ISBN Integration: ISBN tagging enables parents to review detailed library content information.
Search and Scope: The search function allows users to navigate materials by district and Scope & Sequence provided by publishers.
Commenting Functionality: Users can make public and private comments, with notifications sent to districts and FDOE staff for review.
The platform-as-a-service model aims to simplify the management of educational resources for Florida schools, supporting compliance with transparency requirements.
The platform also includes tools that support elementary schools in meeting HB 1467 requirements for posting and managing library materials. By providing an ISBN-tagged solution for the FDOE, TEG enables schools to comply with minimal cost while allowing parents to “opt-out” of specific texts according to district policies.
“Implementing HB 1467 and HB 1557 is a significant step forward for educational reform in Florida. We are excited that TEG's Standards & Materials Navigator Platform will play a pivotal role in this process, helping to ensure that all parents have the ability to review and engage with their children's educational content,” said Megan Fay, Partner at the Capital City Consulting Group in Tallahassee.
