Glasgow schoolgirl wins UK competition with solar-powered blanket for the homeless

Rebecca Young's solar-powered heated blanket design has won the MacRobert Commendation Medal and the UK Primary Engineer competition, outshining 70,000 peers with her design for the homeless, which has now been turned into a prototype by Thales engineers.


Prodigy Learning and Minecraft Education unveil new AI credential

AI Ready Skills is the latest credential product, with associated in-game learning, from the partnership between Prodigy Learning and Minecraft Education.

Available through Microsoft and channel resellers worldwide, or from Prodigy direct, the product is intended to prepare students for the nascent AI era.


The Skills Network goes live with government funded early years course in Greater London area

UK online education provider, The Skills Network, has opened enrolment for a new Skills Bootcamp in Early Years Educator for those living in the Greater London area. 

Residents in the area, including Bromley, Lewisham, Bexley, Croydon and Sutton, can apply for the government funded initiative, which runs over a six-week period or a more intensive four-week period.


Ativion StudentKeeper offers one platform for web filtering, classroom management and safeguarding

Ativion, formerly Impero Solutions, has launched StudentKeeper, a classroom and device management solution that is designed to safeguard and engage students.

It combines online content filtering, classroom management tools, and online device and blocking management capabilities with wellbeing tools into a single platform. The product can foster a safer digital environment where distractions are mitigated.


Former AI Minister Viscount Camrose added to senior team at EdTech specialist Lumi Network

Viscount Camrose, former AI Minister, has joined UK EdTech startup Lumi Network as a Senior Counsel and Board Member.

Camrose served as the UK government’s first-ever AI Minister in the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology from 2023 until the most recent election. During this time, he was responsible for the UK's AI strategy, the government’s Frontier AI Taskforce, and the inaugural AI Safety Summit at Bletchley Park.


Degree Analytics gets $5m investment from LiveOak to develop its facilities management solution

Degree Analytics, a provider of data-centric space management and energy optimization solutions to US higher education facilities, has secured $5 million in early-stage venture capital (VC) funding primarily from LiveOak Ventures, a Texas investor.

The aim is to further develop its offering and its rollout to more universities and colleagues across the US.
