Discovery Education adds DfE-Validated phonics programme to Espresso

Discovery Education has announced the integration of the Department for Education (DfE)-validated 'Time for Phonics' programme into its daily learning platform for primary schools, Espresso

The programme, has been designed to provide teachers with resources for delivering phonics lessons that align with National Curriculum requirements.

Starting in September, 'Time for Phonics by Discovery Education' will be accessible to all Espresso users. The programme, based on Letters and Sounds progression, offers a set of resources designed to teach systematic synthetic phonics (SSP) to pupils in Reception and Key Stage 1 (KS1).

While there is no statutory requirement for schools to choose one of the SSP programmes on the validated list, many schools opt for a validated programme to ensure they are teaching phonics to government standards.

The 'Time for Phonics' programme includes lessons, decodable texts, in-class assessments, and teaching support.

"We're excited to integrate these DfE-validated, award-winning resources into Espresso's rich library of content", said Michael Savitz, Discovery Education's UK and International General Manager. "With our complete suite of resources in hand, teachers will have everything they need in one place to deliver engaging lessons and teach phonics with confidence."

The new programme will complement Espresso's existing phonics resources, allowing teachers to create lessons and assessments.
