BT and partners deliver Europe’s largest CISCO Meraki WiFi installation for Northern Ireland schools

BT, a multinational telecommunications company providing services across broadband, mobile, and enterprise solutions, has announced the completion of a major WiFi upgrade project across Northern Ireland schools and education hubs.

The initiative, conducted in partnership with the Education Authority (Northern Ireland), the Department of Finance NI, and Select Services NI, marks the largest CISCO Meraki WiFi installation in Europe, with over 25,000 wireless access points deployed in 1,210 institutions.

Elmgrove Primary School in East Belfast served as the final installation site in the three-year project. Dr. Chris Sims, Chief Commercial Officer of UK Business at BT, shared details in a recent LinkedIn post, stating, “This new connectivity will prepare Northern Ireland schools for the future, enabling equal access to technology and supporting the use of emerging technologies like AR and AI.”

The project aims to enhance digital inclusion and improve educational opportunities for thousands of students by providing high-speed, reliable internet access. By equipping schools with advanced WiFi capabilities, the initiative supports Northern Ireland’s broader educational goals, including the integration of advanced technologies into classrooms.

Dr. Sims emphasized the significance of the achievement, writing, “This is proof of BT’s commitment to #ConnectForGood, supporting high-quality education for thousands of pupils.”
