Blue Bird announces leadership change as Britton Smith resigns

Blue Bird Corporation has announced that Britton Smith, the company’s President, will step down from his position on September 28, 2024. Smith is resigning for personal reasons and will also leave his position on the company's Board of Directors, effective immediately.

Following Smith’s departure, Phil Horlock, the current Chief Executive Officer of Blue Bird, will take on the additional role of President. Horlock has been with Blue Bird for nearly 14 years and will continue to lead the company as it pursues its strategic goals.

Doug Grimm, Chairman of the Board, expressed appreciation for Smith’s time at the company:

“On behalf of the Board of Directors and the entire Blue Bird team, I want to express our gratitude to Britton for his leadership and contributions to the Company. We wish him all the best in the future.”

Blue Bird has positioned itself as a major player in the electric and low-emission school bus industry. With over 20,000 propane, natural gas, and electric-powered buses currently in operation, the company is focused on expanding its offerings of alternative-powered vehicles. Under Horlock’s leadership, the company remains committed to its growth strategy and meeting the increasing demand for clean transportation in schools.

During his time as President, Smith supported the company’s mission of providing clean-energy solutions for school transportation. In his statement, Smith explained that his decision to step down is based on personal reasons:

“It has been an honour to serve as President of Blue Bird. My decision to step down is driven by personal reasons and I need to focus on these important aspects of my life at this time. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to our employees and partners for their support during my tenure.”
