Age of Learning launches My Reading Academy Español to support spanish literacy in US classrooms

Age of Learning has announced the launch of My Reading Academy Español, a Spanish literacy programme aimed at improving reading fluency among Spanish-speaking students in US classrooms.

My Reading Academy Español targets kindergarten through 2nd grade students. The programme uses adaptive learning pathways and continuous assessments to help students build fundamental reading skills.

The programme includes dashboards that offer real-time insights into student progress, allowing educators to take immediate action to support each student's learning path and ensure they meet state standards and benchmarks.

Alex Galvagni, CEO of Age of Learning, explained the development process:

“At Age of Learning, we are committed to advancing educational equity and that starts with providing learners with access to high quality literacy tools as they begin their journey toward reading proficiency.

“To develop a programme for native Spanish speakers, authenticity was paramount. That is why we built a studio in Mexico, used original Spanish texts, and grounded the curriculum in the Science of Reading in Spanish. This intentionality is what makes Age of Learning’s mastery programs so unique and effective.”

Developed by teams in Guadalajara, Mexico, and the US, My Reading Academy Español incorporates principles from the Science of Reading. The programme features Spanish texts, including traditional nursery rhymes, to help students develop vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency while respecting cultural identities.

Research from the US Office of Special Education Programmes indicates that students who are literate in their first language can more easily learn to read in English. My Reading Academy Español aims to provide a structured approach to teaching Spanish reading skills through instructional videos and learning games.

Victor Raga, Director of Biliteracy Curriculum Design at Age of Learning, highlighted the programme’s educational impact:

“Studies prove that strong readers in their native language learn new languages more easily and quickly. With over two decades of experience in bilingual and ESL education, I have seen firsthand the transformative impact of culturally relevant, research-based materials.

“My Reading Academy Español is designed to help millions of Spanish-speaking children in the U.S. build a powerful reading foundation in their native language, which will pave the way to learn to read in English, as well and set the stage for academic success and a lifelong love of learning.”
