University of Victoria taps Transact’s Mobile credential to streamline campus access and eco-efforts
The University of Victoria (UVic) has launched Transact Campus’s Mobile Credential technology, making it the first institution in British Columbia to offer a fully mobile-enabled campus experience.
The implementation is part of a broader adoption across Canadian universities, with UVic now among six major institutions using Transact’s solution to improve student and faculty access to essential campus services.
The phased rollout of Mobile Credential at UVic has initially included select faculty and staff, with the full deployment for students, remaining faculty, and staff planned for later this month. The technology integrates with Apple and Google Wallet, allowing students, faculty, and staff to access buildings, purchase food, borrow library books, and more directly from their mobile devices or wearable technology.
The University of Victoria has incorporated Transact’s Mobile Credential technology as part of its efforts to reduce plastic waste from physical ID cards.
“The University of Victoria’s adoption of mobile credentials will provide significant benefits to the university community through contactless technology to access services, buildings, and payment gateways,” said Jim Forbes, Senior Director Campus Engagement at University of Victoria. “Students will enjoy extended convenience by using their mobile phones and wearable technologies to buy food at participating outlets across campus, access athletic facilities, borrow books from the library, shop at the UVic Bookstore and more. This is an exciting innovation for students, staff, and faculty.”
The use of mobile credentials on campus is aligned with growing trends among universities to implement digital solutions that enhance convenience for tech-savvy students. According to Transact, Mobile Credential’s compatibility across Apple and Android platforms provides an adaptable solution that meets varied user needs.
