Travelers Institute launches Forces at Work to tackle workplace trends and employee well-being

The Travelers Institute, the public policy division of The Travelers Companies, a provider of property casualty insurance for auto, home, and business, has announced the launch of Forces at Work focused on addressing changes in the labor market and workplace trends.

The program aims to provide strategies and resources for business leaders to build more resilient organizations in response to evolving workforce challenges.

Joan Woodward, President of the Travelers Institute and Executive Vice President of Public Policy at Travelers, outlined the purpose of the program:

“From labor market fluctuations to shifting employee expectations, today’s workforce is evolving at an unprecedented pace. Forces at Work will explore the challenges and opportunities brought on by these changes and offer business leaders the resources they need to build more resilient organizations in an increasingly complex environment.”

Program focus areas

The Forces at Work program includes in-person events, webinars, and white papers focused on five core areas:

  1. Risk Management and Insurance: Guidance on workers compensation insurance and strategies to protect businesses and employees.

  2. Labor Market Trends: Analysis of demographic shifts and hiring patterns affecting the workforce.

  3. Leadership and Management: Insights into effective leadership during periods of significant change.

  4. Talent Development: Strategies to attract, retain, and develop a multigenerational workforce.

  5. Employee Well-Being: Emphasis on mental health, stress management, and holistic care.

The program will debuted with a live symposium in Phoenix, Arizona, on January 14, 2025. Titled “Leading Your Business in 2025: Navigating the Economy, Public Policy and Worker Mental Health,” the half-day event covered economic trends and public policy while addressing employee mental health and workers compensation insurance.

White Paper on mental health in the workplace

The Travelers Institute has released the first white paper as part of the Forces at Work program. Titled “Investing in Mental Well-Being: A Guide for Employers,” the report highlights data on workplace mental health challenges and provides strategies for employers to support their teams.

Dr. Marcos Iglesias, Chief Medical Director and Vice President at Travelers, authored the white paper and explained its relevance: “Prioritizing mental health in the workplace isn’t just the right thing to do – it’s essential for business success. This white paper reinforces how dedicating resources to employee well-being builds stronger teams, enhances productivity and helps companies thrive.”
