Syniverse and TalkingPoints partner to enhance school-family communication

Syniverse, known for its global connectivity solutions, has partnered with TalkingPoints, a US nonprofit focused on improving student outcomes through enhanced family-school communication.

The collaboration aims to deliver critical SMS and MMS messages more effectively and enhance security by segregating communication streams.

The TalkingPoints Universal Family Engagement platform allows teachers, staff, and administrators to communicate with families via two-way text messaging in over 150 languages.

Harry Patz, Jr., Chief Revenue Officer of Syniverse, emphasised the benefits of this collaboration.

"Our work with TalkingPoints provides teachers and parents with greater peace of mind because they can trust that any messages about a child's education and well-being will be delivered quickly and securely.

"This small but impactful step helps TalkingPoints continue to overcome barriers to engagement for families and further ensures that children of all backgrounds have an equal opportunity to thrive."

Schools and districts occasionally need to send urgent messages to families. To address this, Syniverse is implementing dedicated short codes to ensure these messages are prioritised by carriers, resulting in higher delivery rates.

Separating communication into distinct streams enables TalkingPoints to monitor security threats more efficiently and shut down compromised threads without affecting others.

Syniverse also assists TalkingPoints in utilising 10-digit long codes (10-DLCs) to comply with carrier guidelines. This includes advice on managing number pools and best practices to maintain an efficient messaging ecosystem. Combining short codes and 10-DLCs ensures messages are delivered swiftly and not flagged as spam.

As part of its consultancy services, Syniverse has connected TalkingPoints with an aggregator partner to manage the distribution of its SMS and MMS messages. Syniverse also continues to offer ad hoc support related to 10-DLC messaging.

Stephanie Kaufman, Head of Product at TalkingPoints, highlighted the importance of effective communication in education:

"Families feel better equipped to support their children's academic success and development when they can have a meaningful relationship with their teachers and schools."

"But without the skills and tools to support that relationship, it can begin to break down. That's why Syniverse has been such an effective partner: Its considerable messaging expertise and technical know-how help us ensure families can effectively partner with their child’s teachers and schools, regardless of their background or the language they speak at home."
