SchoolStatus names Bill Okun as CEO to lead next phase of growth in K-12 EdTech

SchoolStatus, a K-12 education platform focused on improving family engagement, attendance, and educator development, has appointed Bill Okun as its new Chief Executive Officer.

The company provides data-driven solutions to help school districts strengthen communication between educators and families, aiming to improve student outcomes.

Its platform is used in school districts across all 50 U.S. states.

Leadership transition at SchoolStatus

Okun replaces Russ Davis, who founded SchoolStatus in 2012 and has led it for over a decade. Davis, who will remain involved as a Senior Advisor and Board Member, oversaw the company’s expansion from a local data tool provider to a nationwide education platform.

Russ Davis reflected on the company's growth, stating:

"Building SchoolStatus has been the journey of a lifetime. From our earliest days creating data tools to help local educators, to now serving millions of students in all 50 states, our mission has remained constant: bringing schools and families together to help students achieve their potential.

“In Bill, we've found a leader who understands the education landscape and shares our mission to create measurable impact. I'm excited to continue working with the company as Senior Advisor and Board Member, and I can't wait to see Bill and the team take SchoolStatus to new heights."

Okun brings extensive leadership experience in education technology. He previously served as CEO of Penn Foster Group, President of McGraw-Hill Higher Education, and CEO of Reonomy. He has also held executive positions at Capital IQ and serves as Executive Chairman of Top Hat.

Plans for growth and expansion

SchoolStatus plans to expand its offerings under Okun’s leadership, with a continued focus on family engagement and student support. The company provides tools that allow schools to track student attendance, analyze performance data, and facilitate communication between educators and families.

Bill Okun emphasized his vision for the company's next phase, stating:

"I've seen firsthand how powerful the right tools can be when placed in the hands of passionate educators. I'm honored to join SchoolStatus, and look forward to working with this exceptional team to drive further innovation, integration, and expansion, deepening our support for customers who are tackling some of today's toughest challenges in K-12 education."
