QuizCards launches voice-operated web app to boost oracy skills in students

QuizCards, a new web app designed for voice-operated quizzes, aims to revolutionise how students revise by focusing on oracy and speaking and listening.

The innovative tool seeks to fill the gaps in vocabulary and speaking confidence that current learning platforms can neglect.

Andrew Symeou, Chief Operating Officer and co-founder of QuizCards, is also a working teacher, providing him with direct insight into student needs. He explained the motivation behind the creation of the tool:

"As an educator, I feel that current learning platforms often overlook oracy, listening, and speaking, leading to gaps in vocabulary and a lack of confidence in speaking. Our mission is to empower students by making learning interactive and engaging.

“We developed this voice-operated quiz app to help students practice pronunciation and build oracy confidence, using the power of speech and listening to aid memory retention. It's an accessible solution, especially for students who may struggle with reading and writing, ensuring every learner can succeed and thrive."

The app is currently in its early stages and, according to the founders, is developing quickly. QuizCards offers an accessible and oracy-focused alternative to traditional flashcards for revision.

Users can sign in, select their subject and level, and start quizzing. The flashcards are voice-operated, allowing users to listen to questions and respond verbally after a beep. The system then checks the response and provides feedback on the accuracy of the answer.

A free Beta version of QuizCards is available. It includes true-or-false and multiple-choice questions across various subjects. The founders have announced that a new content update is coming soon, which will include KS3 and GCSE quizzes in all three Sciences, PE, Dance, History, and more.

Despite being early in its development, the core features of QuizCards are functional, and students can track their progress through a free user account. The app's emphasis on interactive and engaging learning aims to help students improve their oracy skills and build confidence in speaking.

Symeou highlighted the app's potential impact: "It's an accessible solution, especially for students who may struggle with reading and writing, ensuring every learner can succeed and thrive."
