Mokosi CEO Jurgita Jaruševičienė talks key takeaways from UNESCO EdTech Strategy Lab in Paris

Jurgita Jaruševičienė, CEO at Mokosi, a platform that connects teachers and students for online lessons, and Chairwoman of the Board at EdTech Lithuania, has taken to social media to discuss a recent UNESCO EdTech Strategy Lab in Paris, France, featuring 150 participants from 33 countries. 

The event, she noted, consisted of a full day if speeches and workshops on regulations, evidence-based tools, creating frameworks, funding and improving pedagogy.

Jaruševičienė commented:

“The processes will be long, but there are some things to focus on when creating an EdTech startup or being on the regulatory side: there is a variety of EdTech tools on the market, but usually it's all about marketing and sales when it comes to success of the company rather than quality.”

Edtechs should be providing evidence based tools, she observed. “But here comes the difficult part - who creates frameworks, what do we want to measure, who funds the research, where do startups get the data from, do we equally trust all countries?”

“UNESCO officials have been working on the definition of an EdTech ecosystem for two years, which says a lot. At the same time they are working on global issues and challenges such as: 250 million kids are out of schools globally, 763 million adults can't read and write, 50 million teachers need to be hired in the upcoming ten years and so on.”

Jaruševičienė concluded: “It's great that Edtechs are acknowledged globally to be the ones to make a huge impact on education. Hope we will soon be having the same situation in Lithuania.”

2024 RTIH INNOVATION AWARDS

Edtech was a key focus area at the sixth edition of the RTIH Innovation Awards, which is organised by our sister title Retail Technology Innovation Hub.

The awards, sponsored by Vista Technology Support, Scala, CADS, 3D Cloud, Brightpearl by Sage’s Lightning 50, Business France, and Retail Technology Show 2025, celebrate global tech innovation in a fast moving omnichannel world.

Our 2024 hall of fame entrants were revealed during an event which took place at RIBA’s 66 Portland Place HQ in Central London on 21st November, and consisted of a drinks reception, three course meal, and awards ceremony presided over by comedian Lucy Porter.

EdTech firm Lynx Educate was highly commended in the Inclusive Technology category. In the first year of its partnership with flagship client Deliveroo, Lynx has helped over 130,000 riders and their family members access learning programmes that enable them to upskill and create opportunities for their future. 

In his welcome speech, Scott Thompson, Founder and Editor, RTIH, said: “The event is now into its sixth year and what a journey it has been. The awards started life as an online only affair during the Covid outbreak, before launching as a small scale in real life event and growing year on year to the point where we’re now selling out this fine, historic venue.”

He added: “Congratulations to all of our finalists. Many submissions did not make it through to the final stage, and getting to this point is no mean feat. Checkout-free stores, automated supply chains, immersive experiences, on-demand delivery, next generation loyalty offerings, inclusive retail, green technology. We’ve got all the cool stuff covered this evening.”

“But just importantly we’ve got lots of great examples of companies taking innovative tech and making it usable in everyday operations - resulting in more efficiency and profitability in all areas.”
