KNIME Partners With DataCamp to support the adoption of data and AI skills

The Konstanz Information Miner (KNIME), an open-source data analytics platform and standalone company that delivers visual workflows and AI-powered data tools, has partnered with DataCamp, an online learning platform, to help disseminate and support the uptake of data science and AI education. The aim is to support the adoption of real-world end uses.

The agreement is intended to provide access to high-quality and easy-to-use learning resources, empowering millions of individuals and organizations to upskill in data science, analytics, and AI – and to then be able to apply them in the real world.

The free and open-source KNIME Analytics Platform allows users from all backgrounds—business, technical, or data-focused—to explore, analyze, and design data solutions of any complexity from spreadsheet automation to advanced machine learning, through to AI-augmented analytics work, via the intuitive visual workflows provided.

KNIME’s commercial products include the KNIME Team Plan, a cloud-based Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offering that supports teams who want to collaborate on and automate data work in the cloud. The KNIME Business Hub is an enterprise software solution that offers capabilities for automation, collaboration, and data and risk model governance – allowing organizations to drive up AI innovation, while driving down any associated risks. This should ensure scalable and responsible management of data and AI projects across organizations.

The deal combines KNIME’s crucial intuitive visual workflows with DataCamp’s comprehensive learning platform, enabling learners to on-board quickly and bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and hands-on application.

Aims of the partnership

In recognition of the increasingly digitized business and e-commerce world that is evident in the 21st century global economy, the partners want users to gain practical skills and an ability to drive faster data insights and innovation via their collaboration.

In this ‘big data’ era where unstructured social media can be mined for sentiment analysis, impacting sales and stocktaking, and where internal structured data pools at firms can be optimized to aid automation and efficiency, spanning to partners in the supply chain, then data mastery is more important than ever. Being a ‘master of data’ is now essential – otherwise it’s a case of ‘garbage in, equals garbage out’ in terms of end results.

This fact is even more important with the recent rise of AI, which now means that data workers must increasingly collaborate closely with AI assistant and automation tools, and fit them accordingly into whatever solutions they are designing.

The advent of generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, is also democratizing access to everyone, with the caveat that good governance of such systems and effective rollout parameters are now more important than ever – if the desired outcomes are to on-point and controllable.

Democratizing data

“By partnering with KNIME, we’re furthering our mission to democratize analytics and AI education for our community of over 14 million learners and 5,000 organizations,” said Jonathan Cornelissen, co-founder and CEO of DataCamp, when commenting on the agreement.

“Through this collaboration, we’re integrating KNIME’s powerful visual workflows with DataCamp’s unique learning experience,” he continued, pointing out that this will enable users to gain insights faster and more effectively. “We’re excited about the opportunities this partnership will unlock for the future of data and AI education."

Together, the companies provide an end-to-end learning experience, allowing users to acquire knowledge on DataCamp and apply it immediately using KNIME’s tools. The partnership includes an initial KNIME Fundamentals Track. This prepares learners for the L1 KNIME Certification and offers learners an:

  • Introduction to KNIME

  • Data Transformation in KNIME

  • Data Manipulation in KNIME

  • Data Visualization in KNIME.

The KNIME Fundamentals Track is the first of many, with further curated content offerings that integrate KNIME’s workflow-based approach with DataCamp’s interactive courses planned in the future. All will seek to incubate a hands-on approach, where users can transition from theory to practice seamlessly, mastering essential data skills for the 21st century faster and with more clarity than would otherwise be possible.

“This collaboration brings us closer to our goal of empowering everybody to make sense of data and AI, which is increasingly important now that tools enable data workers to collaborate closely with AI assistants,” said Michael Berthold, co-founder and CEO of KNIME.

“By combining the strengths of KNIME workflows and the DataCamp platform, we’re empowering beginners and experienced data workers with the skills they need to harness the full potential out of their data.”
