MuseClass debuts: Hal Leonard and Muse Group's new EdTech hits all the right notes

Hal Leonard, a provider of sheet music and music education resources, has partnered with Muse Group to introduce MuseClass, a new platform designed for grade 6-12 music educators in the United States.

MuseClass provides educators with tools for assigning, collecting, and grading student work. The MuseClass app, available on iOS, Android, and Chromebook, allows students to submit assignments via video, audio recordings, or uploaded worksheets.

A key feature of MuseClass is AutoGrade, an AI-powered practice tool that listens to student performances and provides real-time feedback on timing and pitch. This tool can help students improve their practice sessions, and teachers can set AI-assisted challenges as assignments.

At launch, MuseClass includes free digital content from Hal Leonard’s Essential Elements series, a widely used curriculum for bands and strings in the U.S.

The platform's content library will expand throughout the school year, featuring pedagogical scores and method books from Hal Leonard’s catalogue, including music from Taylor Swift, The Beatles, John Williams, and Disney soundtracks. Educators can also create custom exercises using MuseScore Studio, an intuitive notation software from Muse Group.

During its first year, MuseClass is free for all schools. Starting in the second year, It will remain free for teachers, with a $15.99 annual fee per student. The platform also offers customised options for school districts.

MuseClass is the first significant release since Hal Leonard joined Muse Group in 2023. The AutoGrade feature represents the latest advancement in Muse Group’s machine learning technology, building on previous innovations such as StaffPad’s ‘Piano Capture’ and Ultimate Guitar’s Practice Mode. Now, young learners can benefit from AI-guided practice sessions, enhancing their instrumental skills.

MuseClass is set to expand, with plans to grow its feature set and content library based on feedback from U.S. teachers. Future updates include print materials for band leaders and integration with Google Classroom, as well as versions of the software for Kindergarten to Grade 6 educators and international users.
