Dan Newton appointed CEO of Security Journey to lead innovation and global expansion

Security Journey, a platform dedicated to educating software developers in secure coding practices, has announced the appointment of Dan Newton as its new CEO. Newton succeeds Joe Ferrara, who will transition to a board member position.

Dan Newton, an IT industry veteran with nearly 20 years of experience in managed services and enterprise technology, will lead Security Journey's strategic vision. His responsibilities include driving technological innovation, enhancing training offerings, and strengthening customer relationships.

Newton's previous roles include CEO of CDS, where he expanded the company's service offerings and developed strategic partnerships. Before CDS, he was CEO of HiveIO, a developer of intelligent virtualisation technology.

Joe Ferrara, who has led Security Journey through significant growth over the past three years, will transition to the board. Ferrara stated, “Dan has just the expertise Security Journey needs to continue serving customers with leading-edge secure coding education.

“It has been my honour to steer the company through its past three years of growth, and I look forward to collaborating with Dan and the rest of the leadership team as a board member.”

Newton highlighted the importance of cybersecurity education in today’s digital environment. He said, "Over the course of my career, I’ve seen both cybersecurity threats and compliance requirements grow in prevalence. To succeed in this environment, software companies must educate their teams comprehensively.”

In 2022, Security Journey was acquired by HackEDU to strengthen its application security solutions. This acquisition has allowed the company to better serve organisations of various sizes by improving security and compliance through targeted training.

Newton concluded, “Security Journey is positioned to be an influential force in helping companies achieve better application security, write safer code, and build a security-first culture.

Along with the organisation’s talented leadership team, I will focus on enhancing our market-leading curriculum to meet the needs and behavior practices of developers and help our customers navigate this critical and ever-changing landscape.”
