Chris Gardner and Transfr launch Permission to Dream 2.0 to boost career opportunities through VR training

Chris Gardner, entrepreneur and author, has partnered with virtual reality career training provider Transfr to launch Permission to Dream 2.0: Pathways to Success, a new initiative to support expanding career opportunities through immersive learning technologies.

The team up combines Gardner’s public education efforts with Transfr’s VR-based training platform, designed to create economic opportunities for individuals, particularly in underserved communities.

As part of the partnership, Gardner will become Chief Evangelist at Transfr. In this role, he will work with educational institutions across the United States to expand access to Transfr’s career exploration programmes, which focus on preparing individuals for well-paying careers that do not require a four-year college degree.

“Education, exposure, and preparation are the keys to economic empowerment and breaking the cycle of poverty,” said Gardner.

“That is why I chose to partner with Transfr, because they are creating pathways to success for our youth and adults. Together, we are giving students not just the permission to dream, but the tools to make those dreams a reality.”

Workforce development focus

The partnership addresses the growing need for alternative career pathways, particularly for students who may not pursue traditional higher education. Transfr’s VR platform provides hands-on experience in high-demand industries, giving learners a clearer understanding of the skills and qualifications required for those roles.

The programme is designed to help learners access well-paying jobs that offer opportunities for career growth and financial independence.

Bharani Rajakumar, founder and CEO of Transfr, highlighted the alignment between Gardner’s story and the company’s mission:

“Chris's story of overcoming adversity and creating generational change for his family aligns with our mission at Transfr,” Rajakumar said.

“I am humbled that he has partnered with us to carry the legacy of his life’s work; through our VR technology, multi-modal learning platform and community-based partnerships, we're bridging the gap between outdated perceptions and real opportunities in modern industries.”

Programme and awards launch

The launch of Permission to Dream 2.0 also introduces the Transfr Trailblazer Awards, which will recognise individuals and organisations committed to workforce development and economic empowerment. The awards will acknowledge those who inspire youth and adults to explore new career opportunities and equip them with the necessary tools for success.

The partnership aims to address the skills gap that many young people face, particularly those who are not planning to attend college. Transfr’s VR training programmes introduce learners to industries with strong growth potential, allowing them to explore different career options and gain practical experience. The platform’s simulations give students a realistic understanding of the skills needed to succeed in various jobs, helping them to prepare for and secure employment in fields that offer long-term opportunities for advancement.

Rajakumar noted:

“Chris and I have both benefited from the American Dream and now we will work together to make it more accessible to others. Together, we're training the workforce of tomorrow, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background, has equal access.”
