Ahmed El Sewedy inaugurated as Coventry University Chancellor to driving global education initiatives
Eng Ahmed El Sewedy was formally inaugurated as the new Chancellor of Coventry University during a ceremony held at Coventry Cathedral on November 21.
El Sewedy, the President and CEO of Elsewedy Electric, takes on the role following the completion of Dr. Margaret Casely-Hayford CBE’s tenure after two terms spanning seven years.
El Sewedy, a professional engineer, expressed his enthusiasm for the role, emphasizing Coventry University’s focus on diversity and global education:
“As I stand here today and look around this amazing venue, I am proud to see people from all walks of life and from every corner of the globe. This is what Coventry University Group is all about – an institution that fosters a vibrant academic community by promoting opportunity and inclusivity.
“It is also one of the many reasons why I am excited to get started. I want to ensure that we continue our journey to becoming a truly global education group – widening access for students and opening the doors to businesses across the world as we deliver our shared vision of creating better futures.”
El Sewedy has been instrumental in Coventry University’s international expansion, particularly with the establishment of The Knowledge Hub (TKH) in Cairo.
The success of this campus has paved the way for the construction of a second branch, TKH West, in New Zeyad City. His contributions to education also include the Elsewedy Technical Academy, which provides vocational training, and the Elsewedy University of Technology.
The inauguration was attended by dignitaries, including Sherif Kamel, the Egyptian Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
Professor John Latham, CBE, Vice-Chancellor of Coventry University Group, highlighted the significance of El Sewedy’s appointment:
“Our new Chancellor, Eng Ahmed El Sewedy, is a visionary leader in the world of education and someone that we have worked closely with for many years. His appointment reflects our global outlook as an education group and our ongoing commitment to widening access to quality higher education around the world.”
The ceremony marked the start of El Sewedy’s role as Chancellor, which will involve supporting the university’s mission to expand access to education and strengthen global partnerships.
