Willdan backs clean energy push with $17.7M EV and solar project at California School District

Willdan Group, a provider of engineering, energy efficiency, and consulting services to public agencies and utilities, has been awarded a $17.7 million contract to manage a solar and electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure project across 11 sites in Paramount Unified School District (USD), California.
The project includes the deployment of 2.2 megawatts of solar energy systems and 44 Level 2 EV charging stations. The installation is expected to offset more than 1,100 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually, according to the companies.
The contract reflects a broader trend of U.S. school districts investing in clean energy infrastructure, including support for electric school bus fleets. According to the World Resources Institute, over 600 school districts across 38 states had committed to electric school buses as of late 2023, up from fewer than 100 in 2021. The shift is driven by both emissions reduction targets and state or federal funding programs supporting school fleet electrification.
Willdan has provided technical services to cities and school systems nationwide and maintains a long-standing working relationship with the City of Paramount.
Mike Bieber, CEO of Willdan, said:
“This project builds on Willdan’s 50-year working relationship with the City of Paramount and our ongoing work with school districts across the U.S. We thank Paramount USD for this opportunity to support their investment in long-term sustainability and their commitment to clean energy.”
