Skillsoft Unveils GenAI Enhancements to Codecademy for Advanced Tech Skilling

Skillsoft has announced the introduction of new generative AI (GenAI) enhancements to its Codecademy technology skilling platform. These updates aim to provide an immersive learning experience for building technology skills vital in the AI era.

The announcement was made on February 20, 2024, highlighting Skillsoft's efforts to integrate AI technologies into education for both organizations and individual learners.

Kunal Ahuja, General Manager at Skillsoft’s Codecademy consumer business, emphasised the role of GenAI in transforming workplace skill requirements, stating:

“The proliferation of GenAI tools in the workplace is reshaping the demand for skills and talent. We’re critically focused on equipping workers with the learning opportunities required to harness emerging technologies so that they can thrive in the face of change at any point in their career

“By combining our experience and expertise in interactive coding education with the power of GenAI, we’re re-writing the playbook for technology skills training and helping to enable future success for every learner and organisation.”

The enhancements to Codecademy include the introduction of prompt engineering functionality, allowing direct access to ChatGPT within the platform. This feature is designed to help learners incorporate GenAI tools into their programming workflow and develop AI-related skills.

Additional updates include AI-powered coding assistance and project hints, aimed at accelerating project completion and improving debugging skills. A forthcoming mock interview simulator and a virtual coding assistant are intended to provide personalised feedback and guidance to learners.

In response to growing demand for AI skills, Codecademy is expanding its curriculum to include specific courses on prompt engineering and the use of AI in various professional contexts. These courses are intended to familiarise learners with GenAI concepts and their application in professional settings.

Pj Metz, Education Community Manager at GitHub, shared his experience with Codecademy:

“I know I wouldn’t be as far in my career without Codecademy, both before getting into tech and continuing to use it on-the-job. From DevOps to cybersecurity to new programming languages and frameworks, Codecademy has consistently helped me learn about new technologies and take on more complex concepts required at work.”

The new learning experiences are currently available to Codecademy Plus and Pro users, with plans to extend access to enterprise customers in the near future.
