Intelsat and MaxIQ Space introduce Africa Space STEM Program to more schools across four countries

Intelsat, a global operator of satellite and terrestrial networks, and MaxIQ Space, a provider of STEM educational resources, have announced an expansion of the Intelsat Africa Space STEM Program.

The initiative will now reach schools in Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, and Senegal, offering students and educators new opportunities to engage in space science education.

Now in its fifth year, the program will increase its reach to 12 schools and introduce in-person learning sessions for students. Participants will receive instruction from subject matter experts, hands-on STEM kits, and educational resources designed to integrate space technology, sustainability, and the Internet of Things (IoT) into classrooms.

Expanding STEM access to support future workforce development

The 2025 program is designed to equip schools and educators with the tools to create a lasting impact on STEM education across Africa. By increasing access to space science learning, the initiative aims to inspire students and provide them with the skills necessary for careers in technology and engineering.

Rhys Morgan, RVP of the EMEA region for Intelsat, said: "As a pioneer in satellite technology, Intelsat remains committed to maximizing its contribution by inspiring the next generation and connecting African students to real-world applications of space technology."

With Africa developing its space infrastructure, industry leaders recognize the need for early STEM education to build a skilled workforce. The program aligns with national development goals by strengthening technological capabilities and expanding access to science education.

Judi Sandrock, program manager at MaxIQ Space, said:

"With Africa emerging as a key frontier for space infrastructure, it is essential to equip future leaders with the knowledge and skills to drive this transformation. We are continuously investing in state-of-the-art local satellite ground infrastructures across the continent, and we are honored to play a role in preparing the young generation for this future."

Schools and educators in the four participating countries can now apply to take part in the fully funded program. The deadline for applications is March 31, 2025.
