Beyond Corporate expands legal education program for creative students at Manchester Metropolitan University

Beyond Corporate has expanded its legal education initiative with Manchester Metropolitan University (Manchester Met), in the UK, to provide legal support to students in gaming and architecture.

The program builds on the previous collaboration with Manchester Fashion Institute (MFI) and Manchester Law School, which focused on fashion students.

Program expansion and structure

The Legal for Fashion initiative, launched last year, was designed to help fashion students understand legal issues related to launching and protecting their businesses. Following its success, the program is being extended to students in gaming and architecture, where legal knowledge of intellectual property, business law, and contracts is essential.

The program continues to be a joint effort between Manchester Met’s Manchester Law School and the Faculty of Arts & Humanities, with Beyond Corporate providing pro bono legal support. Law students present legal insights to creative students, with sessions covering business structures, intellectual property protection, and commercial agreements. Group discussions allow participants to engage with legal experts from Beyond Corporate.

Future development

Manchester Met and Beyond Corporate plan to expand the program further, ensuring more students have access to legal education as they prepare to enter creative industries.

Barbara Shepherd, Reader in Fashion Business at Manchester Fashion Institute, said:

"This initiative has been transformational for our students. The fashion program’s success demonstrated the real need for legal education tailored to creative industries. Expanding to gaming and architecture is a natural progression, as students in these fields face similar challenges in protecting their work and establishing their businesses. We’re thrilled to offer even more students this invaluable experience."
