Swiss Library Consortium renews open access partnership with MDPI to support research institutions

The Consortium of Swiss Academic Libraries (CSAL) has renewed its partnership with MDPI, Switzerland’s largest open-access publisher, for 2025.
The agreement will continue to support 22 Swiss institutions, including ETH Zurich and EPFL Lausanne, in making research more accessible through MDPI’s Institutional Open Access Program (IOAP).
Agreement expands open access support
Through this renewed partnership, researchers affiliated with participating institutions will benefit from reduced article processing charges (APCs), simplifying the publication process for open-access research. Institutions with centralized APC funding will receive additional discounts, further easing financial barriers for researchers.
The agreement also introduces flexible payment options, allowing institutions to choose funding models that align with their budgets and administrative needs. By removing logistical obstacles, MDPI aims to ensure Swiss research remains widely accessible while maintaining financial sustainability for institutions.
Adrian Stefan Zamfir, Institutional Partnerships Manager for the DACH region at MDPI, emphasized the importance of the renewed partnership, stating:
"We are excited to continue our partnership with CSAL, reinforcing our dedication to supporting Swiss research institutions. This agreement will simplify open-access publishing for researchers in Switzerland, ensuring that their valuable contributions are widely disseminated and easily accessible."
