Educational toy innovations triumph at Spielwarenmesse 2024 ToyAward

At the recent Spielwarenmesse in Nuremberg, Germany, educational toys took centre stage as several innovative products designed to enhance learning and development were honoured with the ToyAward

The awards, presented on the second day of the fair, recognise products that excel in creativity, market potential, and quality of production among the 524 submissions.

The winning innovations, along with the nominees, are displayed in a dedicated section at the fair, providing visitors with a comprehensive overview of the year's top industry achievements.

The award winners spanned six categories, each demonstrating unique attributes that stood out to the 13-member international jury of experts. These products were evaluated based on criteria including safety, potential for commercial success, play value, originality, quality of production, and clarity of the product concept.

In the Baby & Infant category (0-3 years), Haba's Basic Building Blocks – Multicolored was recognised for its high quality and ability to introduce young children to geometric shapes, enhancing their motor, sensory, and creative skills. The compatibility of these blocks with other Haba products was also noted.

For PreSchool (3-6 years), OPPI's Stix won the award. The product's design, incorporating rotating joints for creative construction, was commended for encouraging analytical skills and predictive planning in young builders. The jury was impressed by the use of wooden and silicon elements and the product's contemporary colour scheme.

The SchoolKids category (6-10 years) saw Franckh-Kosmos's Adventure Puzzle – The Light in the Enchanted Forest receive the award. This interactive puzzle combines a story-driven adventure with problem-solving elements, offering a novel approach to engaging children with puzzles.

Teenager & Adults (10 years and older) was dominated by Fizz Creations' Tetris & Pac Man Arcade in a Tin. These miniature versions of classic arcade games were lauded for tapping into the retro gaming trend, offering quality entertainment with a nod to nostalgia.

In the Startup category, Hoppstar's Artist instant camera was highlighted for its encouragement of creativity and fine motor skills among young users. The camera combines photography with hands-on art activities, offering a unique blend of technology and creativity.

The Sustainability award was given to the Feber Recycle Eco House by Famosa from Giochi Preziosi, made predominantly from recycled plastic. This playhouse introduces children to sustainability practices through interactive play, covering topics such as waste separation, recycling, and renewable energy sources.

Christian Ulrich, Spokesperson of the Executive Board at Spielwarenmesse eG, says: "The ToyAward represents an important seal of quality for toys among both retailers and consumers. It underscores the importance of these recognitions in guiding educational choices and supporting innovative learning environments through play.”
